In the era of unprecedented development, everybody tries to be engaged in professional sphere. There is a growing view that profession is the most crucial aspect of life and a satisfying job makes the life more meaningful. I partly agree with this statement, as there are other important elements of life, such as family, health and personal interests.
First and foremost, family can be one of the most essential part of life and a strong drive for many people to work hard. It is common among individuals to pursue career in order to provide their families and to share their valuable properties with them. Without possessing family, these people may lose the meaning of their hardwork, motivation and inspiration. For example, many people try to reach career advancement and provide their families with better living conditions. In this sense, family can serve as a driver encouraging people to pursue profession and make progress.
Another crucial side of life is a proper health condition. When people maintain optimal health are more likely to experience happiness and fulfillment with their lives. Without proper health condition, it can be difficult to enjoy work, even thouhg it is well-paid job. Beyond these, personal intersets, like sports and hobbies are the indispensible part of people's lives. By engaging in thier favourite activities, people can feel happy and satisfy their lifestyles. The availabilty of such activities provides people with the opportunity of alleviating work-related stress and sustain overall well-being. Therefore, state of physically fit and engaging with personal interests can be the main reasons for people to satisfy with their lives.
However, professional career is also important part of life as they offer opportunity to be within society. With people working offices and professional environments, they can communicate with others and cultivate their communicative skills. In contrast, people without employment can feel isolated from society and easly become depressed, causing psychological problems in the long run.
To conclude, while professional aspect palys a crucial role in people's lives, it is wrong to neglect other essential elements of life, including family, physical well-being and individual pursuits.
Examiner feedback
The essay earns a Band 7 because it presents a clear, well-argued position with a logical structure. The vocabulary is strong and varied. However, the overall score is slightly held back by persistent grammatical inaccuracies in sentence structure and article usage.
Task Response - 7
- The candidate addresses all parts of the task, clearly disagreeing with the idea that life is meaningless* without work while acknowledging work's importance. - The position is consistent throughout the essay. - Main ideas (family, health, social interaction) are relevant and extended, though some examples (like the one about providing for families) could be more nuanced to avoid slight over-generalization.
Coherence & Cohesion - 7
- Information is organized logically with a clear progression from the importance of external factors to the role of work. - Each paragraph has a clear central topic. - Cohesive devices (e.g., 'First and foremost', 'Beyond these', 'In contrast') are used effectively, though some transitions feel a bit formulaic or mechanical.
Lexical Resource - 7
- There is a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for some flexibility and precision (e.g., 'unprecedented development', 'indispensable', 'alleviating work-related stress'). - Some less common lexical items are used correctly, such as 'cultivate' and 'pursue'. - There are occasional errors in word formation ('hardwork' vs 'hard work') and collocation ('provide their families' instead of 'provide for their families').
Grammatical Range & Accuracy - 6
- The candidate uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. - While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent errors with articles ('an important part', 'a well-paid job'), prepositions, and subject-verb agreement/structure ('When people maintain optimal health are more likely...'). - Punctuation is generally good, but grammatical slips prevent a higher score in this category.
