The bar chart compares the volume of wind-generated energy, measured in megawatts (MW), across four countries—India, Denmark, Germany, and the United States—at five-year intervals from 1985 to 2000.

Overall, wind energy generation expanded in all four nations over the 15-year period. While the US was the dominant producer for most of the timeframe, Denmark experienced the most dramatic growth, ultimately surpassing the US to become the top generator by 2000.

In 1985, the US led significantly with 1,200 MW, far exceeding the other countries combined. US production peaked at approximately 1,620 MW in 1990 before dropping slightly to 1,500 MW in 2000. In contrast, Denmark’s output grew remarkably from a modest 220 MW in 1985 to peak at 1,600 MW in 2000, eclipsing all other nations.

Meanwhile, India and Germany also saw substantial increases. India’s generation grew sixfold from 200 MW in 1985 to 1,200 MW in 2000. Germany’s output more than doubled, climbing from 400 MW to 900 MW over the same period, though it ended as the lowest producer in 2000.
