The bar chart illustrates data about the job vacancies in tourism-related fields in a city in the UK from 1989 to 2009.
Overall, vacancies in the hospitality industry were significantly higher than those in other areas throughout the given period. It is also notable that the number of jobs available in Restaurants/Hotels sector increased over time, while Sports and Leisure, and Travel and Tourism industries saw a downward trend in the number of hirings.
The hospitality industry was predominant in hiring figures over 20 years' period. In 1989, this sector offered approximately 1100 vacancies, which rose noticeably by nearly 500 more hirings within the next decade. However, this figure reached its highest point in 2004 and remained relatively the same by the end of the period.
Regarding the job openings in Sports and Leisure, and Travel and Tourism sectors, a similar number of vacancies, around 800, were offered in both fields in 1989 and 1994. Yet, both industries experienced a decline in job offerings and the gap between the number of jobs available became wider by 2009 as well. To be specific, while the figure for Sports and Leisure decreased markedly to about 700 in the final year, just over half as many vacancies were offered in Travel and Tourism in that year.
Examiner feedback
This is an excellent response that clearly identifies the main trends and supports them with accurate data. The structure is logical, and the language is sophisticated and precise. To reach Band 9, the writer could focus on even more nuanced comparisons (e.g., noting that Sports and Leisure remained relatively stable compared to the sharper decline in Travel and Tourism) and ensuring perfect idiomatic phrasing.
