The bar chart illustrates the percentage of urban populations in various global regions from 1950 to 2007, with projections up to 2030.
Overall, it is clear that the proportion of city dwellers followed an upward trend across all regions. Notably, North America consistently held the highest urbanization rate, while Africa had the lowest, although Latin America witnessed the most dramatic growth.
In 1950, the figures for Latin America and Asia stood at 42% and just below 20%, respectively. Both regions experienced significant growth; the former is projected to double its urban share to 84% by 2030, while the latter is predicted to almost triple, reaching approximately 54%.
Turning to the remaining regions, North America and Europe started with the highest proportions of city dwellers at roughly 64% and 51%. Despite remaining the most urbanized, North America experienced the slowest growth rate. Europe's urban population is expected to reach nearly 80% by 2030. Meanwhile, Africa's initial figure was the lowest at 15%, but this proportion is forecast to surge to over 50% by the end of the period.
