The maps compare the layout of a town called Brindell and local areas in the years of 1800, 1900, and 2000.

Overall, it can be clearly seen that local areas underwent significant changes over the years, especially in the provision of residential facilities and housing. Of particular note, many areas had been expanded in 2000 except for Farmland.

Notably, the placement of Farmland remained the same in both 1800 and 1900, after which the size had been reduced because of the addition of Bun Hill park in 2000. Similarly, the scope of Woodland had been expanded to add this park in 2000, which also remained the same until this year.

In terms of Brindell, this place was situated on the left-side of the river Stour. The location of this urban area did not experience changes till 1900, before being expanded only in 2000. However, animals's farm called Farmland, which was positioned on the right corner of the river in 1800, had been removed in 1900. New village for employees and four industries occupied the space in 1900, where the former Farmland used to be. After a decade, this place had been expanded, including eight industries and providing a much large accomadation for workers.

Examiner feedback

The response effectively identifies the major transformations of Brindell, particularly the shift from agricultural to industrial use. The organization is clear and the overview is relevant; however, factual inconsistencies regarding the Farmland and the incorrect time duration (decade vs. century) prevent a higher score. Improving grammatical accuracy regarding tenses and comparative forms is also necessary.

Task Achievement - 6

- The response covers the main features of the maps, including the expansion of the town and the industrial changes. - However, there is a significant factual contradiction: the student initially states Farmland remained the same between 1800 and 1900, but later says it was removed in 1900. - Data is generally supported, but the error regarding the time span ("a decade" instead of a century) affects the accuracy of the description.

Coherence & Cohesion - 7

- Information is organized logically with a clear progression from the general overview to specific details of different areas. - Cohesive devices such as "Overall," "Notably," and "Similarly" are used effectively to link ideas. - Paragraphing is appropriate, separating the discussion of natural features from the urban and industrial developments.

Lexical Resource - 6

- The range of vocabulary is generally adequate, with terms like "provision," "situated," and "occupied." - There are spelling errors, notably "accomadation" (accommodation), and some imprecise word choices. - The student uses "after a decade" to describe the period between 1900 and 2000, which is factually incorrect as it was a century.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy - 6

- A mix of simple and complex sentence forms is used, such as "before being expanded only in 2000." - There are frequent errors in tense usage, particularly the over-reliance on "had been" where simple past was more appropriate. - Grammatical slips occur in adjective forms ("much large" instead of "much larger") and possessive nouns ("animals's").
